Lewis & Clark Trail - Montana
Three Forks
I strayed from the Campground to Confluence Trail for a closer look at the Missouri Headwaters flowing north toward the Gallatin River, top left. Lewis Rock, the bare limestone outcrop, is in the background. He climbed the hill to survey the headwaters when he arrived on July 27th, 1805. Above, Fort Rock sits above the river. The Captains named it as a possible future fort site. A moose takes a drink at the Madison, right.
