The
rail segment marker and plaque, left 3 images, points in the HCO's
direction and terrain's description, according to James Mathers. He
was following the trail roughly two years after the Donner Party (Sept.
16, 1846) passed through here. The southern end of the East Humboldt
Range provides the backdrop for the marker, above. HCO cuts a 20 mile,
southwest, diagonal from its US HWY 93 crossing to its junction with
NV HWY 229. From there, the trail follows the highway into Ruby Valley.
James F. Reed called it "Mineral Vally." |
