The HCO over Overland Pass is now a road that can be driven with a regular vehicle. It's a respectable County HWY 006. The Pony Express route follows it and then turns southwest beyond the pass. The Diamond Mountains, top right, watch our team struggle in hail, snow and rain as we head for the top of the pass. It was May 22nd. Summer was right around the corner. The Donners would face worse weather later.
